Missouri — Starting LT Cayden Green injured
Missouri coach Eli Drinkwitz confirmed that starting left tackle and team captain Cayden Green will miss Thursday’s season opener against Arkansas-Pine Bluff because of an undisclosed injury. More importantly, Drinkwitz gave no timetable for Green’s return, leaving his availability for the Sept. 11 Border War at Kansas uncertain. Green is a preseason All-SEC selection and has logged more than 1,600 snaps for Missouri over the past two seasons. Sophomore Jack Lange is expected to step in at left tackle.
I did not find another development from the other 15 SEC teams in the latest reporting that clearly meets the threshold for materially changing their 2026 outlook.

Yes. I found one genuinely significant new SEC development in roughly the last 24 hours, plus an important escalation of a story we’ve already been following.
LSU — Jack Pyburn could return from the NFL. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers waived former LSU edge defender Jack Pyburn today, despite Pyburn recording four sacks during the NFL preseason. If he clears NFL waivers Monday, reports indicate he intends to return to LSU for a fifth college season. Pyburn is already a plaintiff in the eligibility lawsuit that produced a temporary restraining order allowing affected players to pursue another college season.
This could be a substantial late addition to LSU’s defense. Pyburn played for LSU in 2025 after transferring from Florida, so unlike Dae’Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris, this would be a player returning to the LSU program rather than transferring into it from Ole Miss. The remaining immediate hurdle is NFL waivers: another NFL club could claim him Monday.
LSU/SEC eligibility fight — the situation escalated tonight. The SEC publicly announced Sunday evening that it will fight the Louisiana court order preventing the conference from punishing schools that use former professional players. The SEC says it will comply with the temporary order for now but will contest it at a Thursday morning hearing. That hearing has become extremely important because LSU opens against Clemson two days later.
The court situation currently gives LSU a pathway to add Dae’Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris, and potentially Pyburn as well. If all three ultimately become eligible, LSU could receive an extraordinary last-minute roster boost immediately before the Clemson game.
I checked for comparable developments involving the other SEC teams. I didn’t find another new injury, QB change, suspension, transfer, or depth-chart move from the past day that I would put in the same “changes the team’s outlook” category. Missouri LT Cayden Green being ruled out for the opener is significant, but that’s the development I already gave you earlier rather than a new one.
The Pyburn situation is the one I’d watch Monday—whether he clears NFL waivers should tell us whether an LSU return can move forward.
