Yes. The major SEC development today is the LSU eligibility ruling, and it is significant.
A Louisiana judge granted a preliminary injunction preventing the SEC and NCAA from enforcing their restrictions against the affected former professional players. That presently clears the way for LSU to add former NFL players Dae’Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris without the SEC imposing its threatened penalties. The SEC says it will comply with the order while continuing to fight the case.
But the SEC has now escalated the fight into federal court. The conference filed suit against LSU, its Board of Supervisors, president Wade Rousse, athletic director Verge Ausberry and coach Lane Kiffin, seeking to prevent LSU from using former NFL players. The SEC argues LSU’s actions undermine conference rules, competitive fairness and the league’s ability to govern itself.
One other item appeared tonight: Vanderbilt TE Cole Spence is now listed as questionable with an undisclosed injury for Saturday’s Austin Peay game. At this point, however, I would not classify that as a major development until we know the severity or whether he will actually miss time.
I found no other new injury, QB change, suspension, transfer or major depth-chart move tonight that clearly meets the threshold we’ve established.
Bottom line: LSU won Round 1 in Louisiana, but the SEC has essentially said, “Fine—see you in federal court.” This fight is getting bigger, not smaller.
