Georgia’s 63-3 destruction of Tennessee State was about what one would expect from an elite SEC team against an overmatched opponent.

Western Kentucky should provide a somewhat more capable challenge, but the Bulldogs remain overwhelming favorites at Sanford Stadium.
For Georgia, this game is less about the final score than continued development. The Bulldogs are No. 2 in the latest AP poll and are already being evaluated as a national-championship contender. Kirby Smart will want a clean performance—few penalties, no unnecessary turnovers and continued improvement from players moving into larger roles.
Western Kentucky’s best chance is to create explosive plays before Georgia’s defense settles into the game. The Hilltoppers cannot expect to consistently drive 75 yards against the Bulldogs. They need field position, a turnover or a coverage bust to create manageable scoring opportunities.
Georgia should have a substantial advantage at the line of scrimmage. If the Bulldogs establish their running game early, Western Kentucky will have to commit additional defenders to the box, creating favorable opportunities in the passing game. Conversely, Georgia’s defensive front should make sustained rushing success difficult for WKU.
The Bulldogs also have the luxury of rotating players. That depth becomes increasingly important during the second half, particularly against a team trying to match Georgia’s physicality for four quarters.
There is always the danger of a highly ranked team looking ahead, but Georgia has built its program around avoiding exactly that kind of performance. This isn’t the weekend’s most dramatic SEC matchup, but it’s another opportunity for Smart to develop his roster before the schedule becomes considerably more demanding.
Western Kentucky may make Georgia work harder than Tennessee State did, particularly early. Eventually the talent differential should become obvious.
Prediction: Georgia 45, Western Kentucky 13
