There is one major new development at LSU beyond the Whit Weeks injury reported yesterday.
LSU Tigers has now lost linebacker Charles Ross II for the remainder of the 2026 season. Coach Lane Kiffin confirmed Monday that Ross suffered a season-ending injury against Texas A&M. Combined with Weeks’ fractured fibula—which required surgery Monday and will keep him out for an extended period—LSU has suddenly become very thin at linebacker. WBRZ
That makes Davhon Keys considerably more important. Kiffin said Keys played well after being pressed into duty against Texas A&M and indicated LSU will need him to maintain that level to avoid a significant defensive drop-off. LSU is also already compensating for season-ending safety Dashawn Spears’ absence by moving Ty Benefield to the STAR position. WBRZ
There is better news concerning quarterback Sam Leavitt. His hamstring remains an issue, but Kiffin said LSU will be “extremely” cautious with him against McNeese and is considering resting several players because the Tigers still have seven SEC games remaining. There is currently no indication that Leavitt’s injury is a long-term problem. WBRZ
Impact: Ross’ season-ending injury, on top of Weeks’ extended absence and Spears’ earlier ACL injury, materially changes LSU’s defensive depth. The Tigers are now 3–1 and ranked No. 11, and linebacker has become one of the most important positions to watch as they enter the heart of SEC play. WBRZ

SEC Preseason ChangesSEC Football Update
September 30, 2026 — 10:50 PM PT
There is one major new development tonight involving Tennessee Volunteers.
Starting left guard Wendell Moe Jr. is expected to miss the remainder of the 2026 season with the lower-body injury he suffered on Tennessee’s opening drive against No. 1 Texas on September 26. Multiple reports confirmed the season-ending prognosis Wednesday. ESPN
This is a substantial loss. Moe was a 2025 AP first-team All-SEC selection and a 2026 preseason All-American, bringing more than 40 career starts to Tennessee’s offensive line. Tennessee’s own preseason assessment described him as the veteran leader of a unit expected to be one of the team’s strengths. University of Tennessee Athletics
When Moe left the Texas game, Sham Umarov moved from right guard to left guard and Donovan Haslam entered at right guard. Complicating matters, Umarov is now listed as questionable for Saturday’s Auburn game.
Impact: I would downgrade Tennessee’s offensive outlook. The Volunteers managed only 1.59 yards per rushing attempt against Texas after Moe went down, and his loss comes amid an unusually severe run of injuries. Tennessee now has seven players reported out for the season, including tight end Ethan Davis, defensive backs Dylan Lewis, Edrees Farooq and Jadais Richard, linebacker Jaedon Harmon and receiver Joakim Dodson.
