Tennessee has the enormous advantage of Neyland Stadium, and the Volunteers’ tempo can make life difficult for even an experienced defense. Texas, however, has the speed and depth to withstand the early surge.
Tennessee’s best opportunity is to establish offensive rhythm immediately. If the Volunteers can force Texas into a high-possession game and create a couple of explosive plays, the crowd becomes a major factor. Texas needs to avoid turnovers and unnecessary penalties that could turn routine possessions into momentum swings.
The Longhorns’ advantage should emerge as the game progresses. Texas has enough defensive athleticism to limit Tennessee’s explosive plays and enough offensive balance to attack whatever the Volunteers surrender.
Expect Tennessee to land several punches and keep this close into the fourth quarter. Ultimately, Texas puts together one late scoring drive and survives one of its most difficult road tests.
