This is the game of the weekend: No. 1 Ohio State at No. 4 Texas, a rematch of last season’s 14-7 Buckeye victory in Columbus.

Arch Manning hasn’t forgotten that loss. In his first start of 2025, he struggled for three quarters before finishing 17 of 30 for 170 yards, one touchdown and an interception. He now gets another chance, this time in Austin.
Manning looked dramatically different in Texas’ 59-7 opening victory over Texas State, throwing for 305 yards and four touchdowns. Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin was equally impressive, throwing for 320 yards and three touchdowns as the Buckeyes demolished Ball State 56-3.
Ohio State receiver Jeremiah Smith may be the best individual player on the field. Texas has contained him relatively well in previous meetings, but doing so requires defensive resources that create opportunities elsewhere.
The Buckeyes have a vulnerability: their offensive line wasn’t consistently dominant in the opener, particularly in the first-half running game. Texas must exploit that weakness and make Sayin operate under pressure.
Conversely, Manning needs a running game. Texas cannot become predictable against Ohio State’s front seven and expect Manning to throw the Longhorns to victory.
Home field may provide the difference. This should be a playoff-caliber environment, and Texas has spent an entire year waiting for another shot at Ohio State.
I expect a tremendous game—defensive adjustments, field-position battles and several lead changes. This time Manning makes one more play than the Buckeyes.
