The Aggies established control quickly.

Texas A&M scored touchdowns on runs by C. Baker and KJ Edwards to take a 14-0 first-quarter lead. Arkansas briefly answered when quarterback KJ Jackson connected with Chris Marshall for a 26-yard touchdown with 29 seconds remaining in the quarter.

That cut the margin to 14-7 and appeared to put Arkansas back into the game.

The Razorbacks never scored again.

Texas A&M added 10 points in the second quarter, seven in the third and three more in the fourth while its defense completely shut down the Arkansas offense.

The Aggies finished with 401 total yards compared with only 214 for Arkansas. Even more revealing was the difference in possession time: Texas A&M held the football for 38:08, leaving Arkansas with only 21:52.

Marcel Reed gave the Aggies exactly what they needed at quarterback. He completed 13 of 19 passes for 170 yards without an interception and rushed nine times for 66 yards and a touchdown.

Edwards added 66 rushing yards and two touchdowns, while Texas A&M finished with 231 yards on the ground.

Arkansas never found enough offensive rhythm to challenge the Aggies. Jackson completed 13 of 25 passes for only 111 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

Marshall was one of the few bright spots, catching seven passes for 76 yards and Arkansas’ lone touchdown.

Texas A&M ran 68 offensive plays to Arkansas’ 47 and didn’t commit a turnover. The Aggies methodically controlled the football and prevented the Razorbacks from generating enough possessions to mount a comeback.

The result dropped Arkansas to 2-3 and improved Texas A&M to 3-2.

For the Aggies, this was an encouraging example of complementary football. The offense didn’t need to produce spectacular passing numbers because the running game, defense and ball control worked together.

For Arkansas, scoring seven points and producing just 214 yards underscores the problem. The Razorbacks need substantially more offensive production if they hope to survive the heart of SEC play.
