Alabama has another major injury, LSU and SEC Office are at odds over the no play rule for former professional players.

Alabama has suffered a significant defensive-line loss: junior Jeremiah Beaman will miss the entire 2026 season with an ACL injury suffered in Sunday’s practice. He has already undergone surgery.
Beaman was expected to provide important rotational depth at both nose tackle and three-technique behind Terrance Green and Kedrick Bingley-Jones. His absence leaves London Simmons, Edric Hill, Isaia Faga and Steve Bolo Mboumoua as Alabama’s primary depth options along the defensive front.
This is especially unfortunate because Beaman also lost nearly all of the 2025 season to a torn ACL. Alabama had expected him to return to a meaningful role this fall, so this materially reduces the Crimson Tide’s experienced defensive-line depth.

Two developments meet our threshold tonight.
Vanderbilt has settled its opening-day quarterback decision. Coach Clark Lea named Blaze Berlowitz the starter for the September 5 opener against Austin Peay. Five-star freshman Jared Curtis will also play, so this may not be the final word on Vanderbilt’s quarterback situation. Berlowitz gets the first opportunity to replace Diego Pavia, but Curtis will have an immediate chance to make his case.
The LSU–SEC dispute has escalated significantly. The conference has now established severe penalties for schools that use players who previously signed with professional leagues. Reported sanctions can include a half-season suspension for coaches, a fine equal to 50% of a school’s annual SEC distribution, and loss of conference voting privileges. The measure directly affects LSU and coach Lane Kiffin as they pursue former professional players under court orders. The SEC’s underlying ban was already significant; these newly reported penalties dramatically raise the stakes for LSU if it attempts to play one of those players.
I found no comparably significant new injury, suspension, transfer, quarterback change, or coaching development tonight among the other SEC teams that would materially alter their 2026 outlook.
