Game Review: No. 21 Florida 52, No. 4 Ole Miss 28

Florida

Florida delivered one of the weekend’s biggest statements, pounding previously unbeaten Ole Miss 52-28 in Gainesville.

The Gators’ running game was the story. Jadan Baugh rushed 29 times for 142 yards and three touchdowns, while Duke Clark added 126 yards on only 12 carries. Together they accounted for 268 rushing yards and four touchdowns. The SEC’s own recap highlighted that tandem as the driving force behind Florida’s victory.

Florida led 17-6 at halftime, but Ole Miss made things interesting after the break. Trinidad Chambliss scored twice on the ground as the Rebels pulled within 24-21 midway through the third quarter.

That was as close as they would get.

Florida answered with an Aaron Philo touchdown run and then exploded for 21 fourth-quarter points. Philo was efficient through the air, completing 16 of 23 passes for 196 yards and a touchdown without an interception.

Ole Miss produced 426 yards and averaged seven yards per play, numbers that ordinarily suggest a much closer game. Chambliss threw for 298 yards and a touchdown while Deuce Alexander caught seven passes for 134 yards. But two Rebel turnovers hurt, and Florida controlled possession for nearly 37 minutes.

Most importantly, Ole Miss couldn’t stop Florida’s ground attack. The Gators rushed 53 times, controlled the clock and repeatedly finished drives in the end zone.

Florida improved to 4-0 while handing No. 4 Ole Miss its first defeat. It wasn’t merely an upset—the 24-point margin made it one of the most emphatic results of the SEC weekend.
