Texas A&M delivered exactly the type of performance expected from a top-10 team, dismantling Missouri State 50-0 at Kyle Field.

Quarterback Marcel Reed completed 21 of 30 passes for 233 yards, throwing touchdown passes to Isaiah Horton and Mario Craver. Reed was able to leave early in the fourth quarter with the Aggies already leading 40-0.
Running back Rueben Owens II carried 17 times for 77 yards, while Horton led the receiving corps with 76 yards on four catches.
But the most impressive performance belonged to the defense.
Texas A&M completely overwhelmed Missouri State, holding the Bears to only eight yards in the second half. Northwestern transfer Anto Saka recovered a fumble, while Ryan Henderson contributed a fourth-down stop and a strip sack.
The shutout matters.
Mike Elko’s teams are expected to play disciplined, physical defense, and the Aggies demonstrated precisely that. Missouri State simply couldn’t sustain drives once Texas A&M’s front began controlling the line of scrimmage.
Offensively, Reed didn’t need to produce spectacular numbers. He distributed the football efficiently and avoided putting the defense in difficult situations.
That balance is potentially what makes Texas A&M dangerous.
The Aggies don’t need Reed throwing 45 times every week if they can run effectively and continue playing elite defense. Against SEC opponents, however, Reed will eventually be asked to win games through the air when the rushing lanes disappear.
Missouri State couldn’t provide that test.
Nevertheless, Texas A&M did everything expected of a College Football Playoff contender.
Fifty points on offense, zero allowed on defense and an early exit for the starting quarterback constitute about as successful an opening night as the Aggies could have requested.
