Furman at Tennessee — Sept. 5
Furman has traditionally fielded competitive teams at the FCS level, but playing Tennessee in Knoxville presents an entirely different challenge. The Volunteers should have a decisive advantage in speed and depth and will attempt to establish their preferred offensive tempo immediately. Furman’s defense must prevent explosive plays and force Tennessee to sustain lengthy drives rather than surrendering quick scores. Offensively, the Paladins will need to control possession and keep Tennessee’s offense on the sideline. That becomes increasingly difficult if Tennessee builds an early lead. The Volunteers should steadily wear down Furman and use the second half to evaluate younger players throughout the roster.
